Mining Museum for its Harvest Festival/Miners' Pumpkin Patch.
Dear Gleneagle SERTOMA Club,
Historically, our club has helped with a service project at the Mining Museum for its Harvest Festival/Miners' Pumpkin Patch. I am out of state for the first two weekends in October but the museum is asking for our help. See the attached flier for this month long event.
It is fun to see these families and little kids pick out a pumpkin each year. And to watch them run around the museum grounds seeing all of the different activities that are going on. The museum has the following half day volunteer positions that they need to be filled. If you and a friend can help out (buddy up together) or just be an individual volunteer then please call Grant Dewey at 719-488-0880 to sign up for a Date, Time, and Volunteer Position.
Dates: each weekend in October, 5th and 6th, 12th and 13th, 19th and 20th, and 26th and 27th.
Times: On Saturdays two shifts, 9:00am to 12:30pm, and 12:30pm to 4:00pm.
On Sundays one shift 12:00 to 4:00pm.
Volunteer Positions:
1. apple cider press operator: Demonstrate and explain the 100 plus year old apple cider press. Written instructions and Posters are available on how to do this demo. If good weather is forecasted then the cider press will be set up in the 130 year old apple orchard. Bad weather then it will be set up in the Hay barn. Level of physical effort, medium. Bring a lawn chair.
2. parking attendant: Help direct traffic to parking spaces. Level of physical effort, medium, standing most of the time directing traffic. Bring a lawn chair.
3. pumpkin handler: Help the kids and parents put the pumpkins in wagons to take to their cars. Have the wagons returned to the pumpkin patch. Place new pumpkins out when the supply gets low. Level of physical effort, high, need to be able to lift large pumpkins. Bring a lawn chair.
4. front gate attendant: Collect payment and data about the visitors. Direct them to a parking attendant so they can park their car. Level of physical effort, medium. Bring a lawn chair.
5. pumpkin patch ticket collector: Check out the kids and their families once they select their pumpkins. Some people have purchased a second pumpkin and you need to collect their ticket for that. Level of physical effort, low, can seat most of the time. Bring a lawn chair.
6. other: Floating Volunteer. Tasked by the museum staff to fill in where needed.
Please help support this fun, family-friendly, community event by volunteering for a few half days.
Kind Regards,
Mark Yoder
